Hi I’m Jake Porter, and welcome to StormTossed.net.  I wrote Storm Tossed:  How a U.S. Serviceman Won the Battle of Sex Addiction to help men over come the same humiliating dilemma I struggled through.  Despite growing up in a Christian home, I still had access to pornographic magazines from neighborhood friends.  At the age of nine I had no concept of sex, but I was still mesmerized by those pictures.  Deep down inside I knew what I was doing displeased the Lord and the thought of getting caught by my parents terrified me.

As a young adult in college I was viewing X-rated videos with my roommates.  When I joined the Navy I had no resistance to the prostitutes who plied their trade in those overseas ports.  Afterward I would feel guilty and ask God to forgive me then go back out and do it again.  One night I realized I was addicted to porn and sex.  I had never heard of such a thing, however I couldn’t relinquish such strong habitual actions.

After my discharge I got married and started a family.  I thought my old ways were behind me, yet God had plans for my life and the past needed to be dealt with.  Everything I attempted ended in failure!  I was depressed and contemplating suicide.  A Christian friend showed me my sins went beyond lust and were rooted in something more sinister.  In the end God removed my burden of guilt and completely washed away those horrible sins.  Six years later I would look into the Face of Death and fight for my life.  Without a doubt, I wanted to live and rejected death!  Jesus had a purpose for keeping me alive and I needed to fulfill it.
